KEENE | Timberlane's offense came alive in the second half yesterday afternoon, but not enough in a 28-21 loss to Keene in a pivotal Division 2 contest.
The setback dropped the Owls to 3-3 in Division 2 and lifted Keene to the same record.
While the Owls struggled in the first half, Keene quarterback Tanner Boucher (15 of 23, 207 yards) connected on TD passes of 55 and 46 yards to put his club ahead 14-0.
Derek Furey (21 carries, 132 yards) scored on a 12-yard run to cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime and put the Owls within a point, 14-13, with a 50-yard run in the third quarter. But Boucher connected on two more scoring strikes to put Keene ahead for good.
A 28-yard scoring run by James Dionne (16 carries, 107 yards) in the fourth quarter brought the Owls within a touchdown, but they could get no closer.
"We fought back really well but we had trouble moving the ball in the first half," said Timberlane assistant Kevin Fitzgerald.
Nick Scali and Jordan Regan played strong defensive games for the Owls, who host a tough Winnacunnet squad Friday.
