This game almost could have been played on an arena football-sized field.

Pelham's defense and special teams were so dominant, Epping couldn't get out of its own end of the field. Of 52 offensive plays run by the Pythons, only eight started on their own side of the 50-yard-line. Add in five Epping turnovers and the rout was on as Pelham (now 6-0) made the Blue Devils (2-4) even bluer, 55-13.

"It always helps, believe me," said Pelham head coach Tom Babaian. "I'm thankful we always had good field position." An interception by defensive back Joe DeAngelo on the game's second play set the tone, leading to a 5-yard sneak by the sophomore quarterback just 2<1/2> minutes into action.

The Python defense never let up, adding first-half fumble recoveries from sophomores Conor McColgan, Ricky Rocha and Corey Peterson as well as from junior standout Bruce Vieira. Rocha also blocked a punt that was recovered by junior David Wesson and returned to the Blue Devil 7.

A self-confessed perfectionist, Babaian said of an effort that yielded just 79 total yards. "(Yesterday) wasn't one of our better efforts on defense but we came away with some big turnovers when we needed them. Everybody was really stepping up when they had to."

Three of the fumbles were turned into points, none more flashy than Vieira's as he ripped the ball out of Marcus Boswell's hands at the Epping 38, spun around quickly and sprinted the distance for the touchdown.

Vieira added two other scores on runs of 21 and 15 yards, finishing with 85 yards rushing on only seven carries plus 31 yards on three pass receptions.

Junior Tyler Gantt (35 yards) added a pair of rushing scores and sophomore Cameron Robidoux outbattled defensive back Kevin Case for the ball and a fine 27-yard TD reception late in the second quarter.

DeAngelo was an efficient 8 of 15 passing for 92 yards. Even the JVs got into the act, piecing together the game's best drive featuring the outside running of freshman Tim Schaffer (seven carries, 84 yards), who capped the game's scoring on a nice 5-yard run.
