NEWBURYPORT — The road to redemption continued for Newburyport, which after starting the season 0-5, has won its last four games.
Last night the Clippers overwhelmed North Reading, 21-0.
The Clippers continually shot themselves in the foot with careless penalties in the first half. North Reading, on the other hand, never exploited the Clipper lapses, and had three punts and a fumble on Newburyport's 20-yard line that was recovered by senior Darren Wright.
Joe Clancy threw two touchdowns in the third quarter, a 21-yard toss to Derek Freeman, and then a 9-yard flip to Kyle LeBlanc. Newburyport added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, a game-clinching 85-yard touchdown pass from Clancy to LeBlanc.
"It was tough," said Hornets coach Jeff Wall, whose club fell to 4-4 and 1-2 in the CAL Small. "The kids gave us everything they had and that's all we ask of them. The Clippers are a very good team and they showed that tonight."
Junior Bobby Rosano led the Hornets with 83 yards on seven carries.
