LOWELL — The good ones are never satisfied.

That seemed to be the case Saturday with Lowell Holiday champs Mike Glynn of Central Catholic and Beau Dillon of Salem as well as Nick Pallaria and the Timberlane wrestling team.

The young Owls, who are largely rebuilding, finished a surprising second to Springfield Central, which came in with 177 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Timberlane (151). Vermont power Mount Anthony was third (145.5), just four points ahead of Salem, which was led by Dillon.

Pallaria finished third at 145 pounds, winning an energetic 8-7 decision in the consolation finals, but he was hardly satisfied, either with himself or the team.

"It's good that we took second but we should have been first," said Pallaria. "And I'm not too happy with how I wrestled. I should have been in the finals. The guy I beat (for third) beat the guy I lost to."

In the battle for third, Pallaria took a 6-3 lead over Xaverian's Michael Bobola after the first period, but then had to hold on down the stretch. Pallaria was the Owls' second highest placer on the day, finishing just a place behind sopomore 138-pounder Codey Wild, who lost a 6-2 decision in the finals to Mike Glynn.

Mike Glynn, who was fourth at Lowell last year, was quite familiar with Wild because they work out together at The Barn in Kingston. While happy with his win, he was not overly impressed with himself.

"I wrestled all right," he said. "I should have won. I was the No. 1 seed."

Also for Timberlane, Konrad Parker was fifth at 113, John Leavitt was seventh at 126 and Brendan Young was eight at 195.

"Just to be in the hunt for the title I think is pretty good for us," said Timberlane coach Barry Chooljian. "We left some points out there but generally I think we wrestled pretty well. I think they were working at it.:

Dillon's redemption

Dillon, the defending New England champion at 195 last year, had a couple of things on his mind that he wanted to rectify. First, he didn't even place at Lowell last year and, second, he started the season by losing in the finals of the Blue Devil Classic.

"I really wanted to make up for the loss this year and also for last year," said Dillon, who recently committed to Division 1 Edinboro. "I just want to keep building on this. I'm wrestling okay now, but I'm not where I should be."

Dillon was one of two finalists for Salem, the other being 126-pounder Matt Adams. He had a strong tournament but got caught early in the finals by Danvers' Max Leete and got pinned in 45 seconds.

Also for the Blue Devils, Josh Ozoria was fourth at heavyweight, Ryan O'Rourke looked sharp while taking fifth at 106.

Impressive 3rds

In addition to Mike Glynn's title, Central Catholic picked up a pair of third places as Jimmy Glynn (106) and Anthony Mears (220) both had second period pins in the consolation finals to lift the Raiders to 10th place overall. Mears has looked impressive this year in what has developed into a very strong weight class.

Also taking third was Haverhill sophomore Ben Davoli, who captured a solid 4-0 decision over Concord's Sam Wagner in his final match, and Pinkerton's Sterling McLaughlin, who registered a 9-5 decision over Russell Canova of Danvers in the consolation finals.
