LOWELL — Carlos Nunez scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, and Lowell held on to beat Lawrence, 72-65, Tuesday night.
"Lowell is a very good team," said Lawrence coach Jesus Moore. "They're very tough and scrappy, and they play well together. They're a tough-minded team."
Lawrence (9-3) led 33-30 at halftime, but a 28-point third quarter swung the momentum in favor of the Red Raiders (10-1).
Lowell built a 9-point lead with around four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but all Lawrence could do the rest of the way was trade baskets until the final buzzer sounded.
"It was pretty tight in the fourth," said Moore. "It was back-and-forth all game. We just kept exchanging baskets late in the fourth."
Eagle-Tribune MVP Luis Reynoso scored a team-high 18 points for the Lancers. Jaden Castillo added 12 points, and both Noah Tejada and Gabriel Zorilla chipped in 8.
Lawrence gets Friday off before returning to action at home against Tewksbury on Tuesday ( 7 p.m. tip).
Lawrence (65): Garcia 0, Mora 0, Estrada 2, Peralta 5, Melendez 7, Goris 7, Zorilla 8, Castillo 12, Tejada 8, Herrera 0, Reynoso 18.
