WESTFIELD — It wasn't a terrific day for the Pentucket boys cross country team at the Division 2 All-State Meet Sunday, but it was pretty fantastic for the Cape Ann League.

The Sachems finished a rather distant sixth but CAL foe Newburyport, led by individual winner Sam Acquaviva, was an overwhelming champion and league foe Triton was fourth.

"It was a great day for the Cape Ann League and it (the league) is going to be stacked again next year," said Pentucket coach Darrel Cox. "We didn't have our best day but, on our best day, we would have been only second."

On a day when the 5K Stanley Park in Westfield was still covered with snow, slowing down the times, junior Peter Lopata led the Sachems, finishing ninth in 17:17.29 while classmate Sam Stys was 20th in 17:40.37.

Senior Will Coppola was 58th and sophomore Colin Costa, hampered by painfu;l shin splits, was 90th.

"The times were probably a minute more than they would have been," said Cox.

In the Division 1 All-State meet, Arlington star Ryan Oosting was the individual winner with a superb tim (considering the snow) of 15:57.75. North Andover's Jack Bicksler was 25th with thye best local time of the day, a 17:05.51.

Concord-Carlisle was the D1 team champion followed by Wellesley and Lexington. St. John's Prep finished ninth.
