MANCHESTER — Sanborn interim coach Tony King wanted to ease sophomore Jackson Paradis into the rotation slowly.
But, after the 5-foot-10, 190-pound running back gashed Manchester West for 139 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns Friday night, that probably won't be the case anymore. Paradis' big night helped the Indians get off to a season-opening 23-20 win over Manchester West.
"This was a great breakout game for him," said King, whose team actually trailed 6-0 early in the first quarter.
But Jackson converted his first TD of the game and an Austin Kalinowski 27-yard field goal gave the Indians a 10-7 lead after one. In the second quarter, senior Todd Dabreio rushed in for a score followed by Paradis' second TD to make it a 23-6 game at the half.
West would cut it to 23-20 late in the fourth and was driving. But, on a 4th-and-8 from the Sanborn 30, the Indians came up with the stop to seal the game.
"They played tough," said King. "That was a great defensive stand at the end of the game."
Defensively, Matt Sarette and Dabreio each had interceptions.
The Indians host Pelham next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
