MANCHESTER — Pinkerton's boys couldn't quite reach its goal of taking the runner-up spot in the Division 1 meet Saturday, but it came close.
Concord rolled to the title as expected with 48 points but Keene slipped into second with 91 points followed by the Astros with 104 points.
It was nevertheless a good performance by the Astros, led by senior Joe Gagnon in 7th at 16:31.7 on Derryfield's tough 5K course. Junior Nolan Preble ran a steady race in the rain, taking 18th, and rising freshman Luke Brennan was 23rd, one place ahead of Jeff Mize.
Salem finished 11th led by sophomore Jackson Mazejka, who was 33rd overall in 17:26.0. Senior Sean Holden was next for the Blue Devils, in 41st.
Khalil places fifth
Despite a steady rain in the last meet of the day, Sanborn sophomore Dylan Khalil placed fifth in the Division 2 meet, in 16:59.0, to pace Sanborn to sixth place and a trip to the Meet of Champions next Saturday for the second straight year and second time ever.
Owen Stocker backed up Khalil for the Indians, placing 17th in 17:35.2.
Windham, led by sophomore Rohan Rai in 22nd (17:38.7), came in ninth. Coe-Brown was first with 44 points followed by Oyster River with 61.
