HAMPTON, N.H. — The Ference brothers did it all and Salem registered a huge 20-13 win over defending Division 1 champion Winnacunnet.
Junior Michael Ference caught scoring passes of 4 and 15 yards from Kyle Poulin. Senior James Ference picked off two passes including late in the game at the Salem 12.
Both clubs are now 5-2.
Blue Devils coach Rob Pike was a proud coach after the game.
He said, "Winnacunnet runs the split-back veer (option offense). We did a great job. This is a huge win. They are a really good team. It's a great win."
If they gave out game balls the Devils could have given out 10 or more.
Will Michaud, who like his brother Ryan is a brilliant scholar-athlete, was "excellent, excellent," said Pike.
Eagle-Tribune Lineman of the Year Jared White again proved to be one of the state's best. Pike said, "White is a great, great player."
Defensive back Joey Calabrese had an interception and caused a fumble.
