MANCHESTER — Trevor DeMinico scored 23 points and Salem made a late run but the No. 12 Blue Devils lost to No. 5 Manchester Central, 73-60, in the opening round of the Division 1 boys basketball tourney.
Coach Rob McLaughlin explained, "We were down 7 at half (29-22). We'd make a run then have an ill-timed turnover. It was a battle. We cut it to about 7 with 3:30 left and they hit their free throws down the stretch."
Kyle Poulin (13) and Nick Hayes (10) also cracked double-figures for the Blue Devils (9-13, 8-11 in NHIAA).
McLaughlin was highly complimentary of his seniors James and Nick Hayes and Matt Soldano.
He said, "James Hayes didn't score but was unbelievable defensively with two charges and eight rebounds. He does all the little things you love. I was proud of all three of them. If you have to go out, that's the way you want to go out."
