Mistakes cost Lawrence in loss to Dracut

DRACUT — Lawrence trailed by one touchdown with just over three minutes to play, but Dracut executed a third-and-long and added the game-clinching score in the final moments to down the Lancers 27-14 on Friday night.

"It was a carbon copy of last week's loss (32-17 to Lowell)," said Lawrence coach Mike Yameen. "We are only down one touchdown late in the fourth, but we just can't finish. We just made too many mistakes and that really hurt us."

Lawrence jumped out to a fast lead in the first quarter. Anthony Garcia picked off a pass, setting up a 1-yard Ronnie Pena touchdown run to make it 7-0.

After Dracut responded with 20 straight points, the Lancers were able to cut into the lead when Pena found Andre Wilson for a 38-yard touchdown pass.

Lawrence then forced Dracut into a third-and-long on their next posession. But the Middies clinched the victory with a score.

Brandon Santell shined for the Lancers. He made 10 tackles and rushed for 60 yards in the losing effort.

"We had too many penalties and too many turnovers," said Yameen. "And we just couldn't recover. We have to eliminate the mental mistakes. When you have chances, you need to take advantage, and we didn't do it. We need to learn from this game."
