ANDOVER - Joshua Ramos, welcome to the show.

Known as "Bebe" (pronounced bee-bee), which means "baby boy" in Spanish, the Dominican-born Ramos was a monster in Andover's 34-28 non-playoff game victory over Acton-Boxboro Friday night.

The sophomore played much larger than his 5-foot-7, 126-pound frame, rushing for 220 yards on a workhorse 30 carries. He also made two catches for 41 yards and, with his kick return duties, exceeded 300 total yards.

Maybe his most impressive runs came at the end of the game, when Andover (4-5) trusted the small, budding star to chew clock with tough runs up the middle.

"With about two minutes to go, when Bebe got that first down, coach (Matt) Silva turned to me and said ‘He. Is. A. Dude,'" said Andover coach E.J. Perry. "Now, if he wants to be great, that's the thing. He's a dude now, so next year we want him to be better than a dude. He was great."

Heading into Friday night, Ramos had 390 rushing yards this fall - and 155 of those came in last week's Division 1 North quarterfinals loss to Lexington.

According to Ramos, his expectations have remained the same.

"It felt good. I was just excited to do what I did," said Ramos. "I just put my head down and tried to get as many yards as I could. Every game I expect to put on a show."

Ramos had help Friday night from his quarterback, Nick Dellatto, who was 13 of 26 passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a third score.

Trailing 28-20 with six minutes left, Dellatto bullied his way into the end zone for a 10-yard TD. Andover, however, could not get the tying conversion.

But on the ensuing kickoff, Phil LeBlanc Jr., soared to snag Shamus Florio's onside kick to give the Golden Warriors possession.

Dellatto made it count, hitting Patrick Dennehy for an over-the-shoulder 38-yard TD reception followed by a successful conversion to make it 34-28.

"We work on that play all the time in practice and he's never gotten it," said Perry of LeBlanc, who is also the baseball team's starting catcher in the spring. "But he caught it clean tonight. That's what a catcher does. He made the big play of the night."

After taking the lead, Andover's defense forced Acton-Boxboro (3-6) into a 3-and-out, and the offense ran out the rest of the clock.

Dellatto status

QB Nick Dellatto appeared to hurt his ankle on the second to last play of the game. He came out and Mark Bentley took the final snap.
