Pinkerton boys lacrosse led Bedford 8-2 with seven minutes to play before Bedford threw a terrible scare into the Astros. The Bulldogs ran off five straight goals before Pinkerton was able to hang on for the 8-7 victory.
The win sends Pinkerton (19-1) through to the Division 1 state championship game, where the Astros will once again face Bishop Guertin.
Pinkerton got four goals and an assist from Ryan Auger, and Tom Sweeney had three assists in the win.
Pinkerton coach Brian O'Reilly said the stressful finish was largely a product of some of the younger players going for goals when holding on for possession to kill the clock would have been the better move. Fortunately, the Astros won a faceoff and took a timeout with 24 seconds left, and were able to run the clock down for the win.
