GOFFSTOWN — Timberlane knew it faced a daunting task, traveling to take on defending Division 1 state champion Goffstown, which was playing for its 18th straight victory.

And out of the gates, the Grizzlies every bit lived up to their reputation.

Goffstown scored three touchdowns in the game's first 6:39, building a lead that Timberlane could not recover from, and the Owls fell 35-14 on Saturday afternoon.

"They got us today," said Timberlane coach Kevin Fitzgerald. "They got us in a lot of area of the game. They were more physical, they execute better and they coaches better. I'm disappointed with the way we performed today."

Goffstown jumped out fast. After punting on their first possession, the Grizzlies scored on their next two drives, then turned an interception into seven more points to make it 21-0 before the Owls could respond.

Timberlane showed some fight in the second half. Jacob Post (82 rushing yards) ran for a 34-yard touchdown, then delivered a 55-yard kickoff return that set up a 1-yard TD run by QB Dan Hayes (152 passing yards).

"Hayes is getting better and he made a few nice plays," said Fitzgerald. "He's going to be a very good player down the line. But just like everyone else he needs to be more consistent.

"We didn't execute well enough and this is what happens. This was not our best effort. We have to be better than that. Goffstown mixed it up and took advantage of our mistakes. We will have to be much better next week against a very good Salem team."

Timberlane did dodge a major bullet late in the game. On his final carry of the day, Post went down with an apparent leg injury, and had to be helped off the field. But Fitzgerald said he didn't believe the injury was serious.

"I think he will be alright," said the coach. "He banged his knee up a little. But I don't think it's an injury. He's just a little banged up. But we'll see."
