BOSTON — Having the 4x200 meter relay as the second event of the day benfited the Andover boys, who used their fresh legs to take first in the event at the New England Championship.

Andover finished the event with a time of 1:31.29, which was only .17 seconds ahead of second place Acton-Boxboro and .54 seconds ahead of third place Falmouth.

"It was a bit of a surprise, but we had taken third in the same event at All-States," said Andover head coach Peter Comeau. "They hit on all their stretches today. It was the first time where they just ran the relays. Normally in Mass. we run our relays at the end, but today it was the second event. We had fresh legs, and they all ran their best."

Jerry Chan, Andrew Lucia, Raymond Gorzela, and Jeremy Travaglini were the runners for Andover for the 4x200.

"We knew we had a fast time, and I saw some pics of us jumping around afterwards," said Travaglini, who ran the third leg for Andover. "It wasn't really a surprise to us. We knew we were capable, and we actually watched another top-team botch a handoff so we knew that gave us a little more time."

Travaglini and the rest of the Warriors are used to success at New Englands, who last spring took home the 4x400.
