The Reggies of Greater Lawrence suffered their first defeat of the season on homecoming night with a 32-14 loss to the Northeast Hurricanes.

Greater Lawrence came into the game following dominating wins over Greater Lowell, Georgetown, and Somerville, but struggled to match the physicality the Hurricanes brought to the field on Saturday night.

"The just physically beat us down," said Greater Lawrence head coach Tony Sarkis. "It was a little bit of everything, tackling was a part of it, we weren't in our right places at times, but the physical part is what killed us."

Northeast utilized an onslaught of backs to keep Greater Lawrence defenders constantly guessing. The Hurricanes came out in the same package the entire game, and did a great job of using misdirection to pick up chunks of yards on each play.

The key play came midway through the third quarter when Greater Lawrence quarterback Kyle Vasconcellos threw a pick as the team was about to march in for the go-ahead score. Jerry Perrin caught the interception going across the middle in front of Reggie reciever Alex Gieng.

Greater Lawrence had recieved the ball to start the second half, and was about to cap off an 11-play, seven-minute drive for the lead. Instead, the interception served as a potential 16 point turnaround, as Northeast punched the ball in on their ensuing drive.

The Hurricanes also did a solid job at containing back Ojany Billiard. The Reggies speedy back gashed Greater Lowell for three TD's last week, but only rushed for 81 yards on 15 carries and a score in Saturday's contest.

Captain Edgardo Garcia played a solid game defensively for the Reggies, but the Hurricanes never put the ball on the ground.

Greater Lawrence will now prepare for a road contest next week against Essex Tech.
