HAMPTON — Senior Tyler Furey carried 27 times for 168 yards and three touchdowns to power Timberlane to a 24-13 win over Winnacunnet.

Furey bulled in from the 1 with 1:32 left in the half to break a scoreless tie then gave the Owls some breathing room with a 34-yard scamper early in the third. The Owls (3-2) made it 21-0 on his 23-yard run later in the quarter.

Jason Hughes capped the Timberlane scoring with a 25-yard field goal in the fourth.

"Tyler ran very hard in the second half and the offensive line was able to open some holes," said Owls coach Kevin Fitzgerald, singling out  Zach Makepeace, Ben Sargent, Justin Maguire, Nick Allen, Alan Rendo and Eli Sorensen for their blocking.

Safeties Josh Thibeault and Austin Hall and inside linebacker Travis Hall neutralized the hosts' rushing attack.

Winnacunnet dropped to 2-3 but that's deceptive. The Warriors lost to Exeter, the fourth-ranked team in the state, last week on a late field goal and No. 5 Salem had to rally to down them.

Timberlane was coming off a tough 17-7 loss to Salem.

"I'm just really happy with how we rebounded," said Fitzgerald. "We challenged them and they responded in a big way."

Timberlane is at struggling Dover, Friday, 7 p.m.
