Londonderry rolls over Dover

The Londonderry football team got off to a fast start to the season on Friday, riding a 21-point second quarter to a 55-24 blowout win over Dover.

David Wiedenfeld led the Lancers with 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and quarterback Ben Johnson had 150 yards passing with three touchdowns to go with 131 yards and another touchdown on the ground.

After Dover took a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter, Londonderry took control after Johnson found tight end Cam Reddy for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Over the next five minutes Wiedenfeld broke free for touchdown runs of 4 and 44 yards to break the game open, and the Lancers led 28-10 at halftime.

Londonderry added to their lead in the third after Johnson found Cameron McDonald for a 37-yard touchdown pass, and then followed that up with a 61-yard strike to Nick Donnelly. Dover got a touchdown back late in the third, but in the fourth Jake Stevens broke out for a 21-yard touchdown run, and Jimmy Zimolka put the game away with a 3-yard run.

The Lancers are now 1-0 on the season and will be back in action next Friday night against Timberlane.
