Odds and ends: Timberlane has captured eight straight Division 1 (Class L) titles, none more exciting than last year's comeback two-point win over Concord. ... Senior Jarad Smith, 39-6 and a state champ at 152, was third at 145 at the National Open over the summer. ... For the third year, the Owls may have Cam Sullivan (32-14 last year) and heavyweight Brian Nicoll (29-13) at both ends of their lineup. Dave Clemens was 33-9 as a sophomore. ... Freshman Matt Morris has looked impressive in the preseason and sophomore Alex Smith (28-15) looks greatly improved. ... Freshmen Nick and Nate Lawrence are sons of Dan Lawrence, a state champ on Timberlane's 1987 squad. ... Dan Donovan has joined the coaching staff. He directed the middle school program for several years.
Coach Barry Chooljian (25th year, 346-40-4): "For the first time in awhile, we don't have any New England placers back, so we have a lot of work to do. We had new kids step up last year to help us and we're going to need that again."
