Timberlane drove to the opposing 21-yard line with 2:30 to go in the game, but was stuffed on fourth and short and Dover ran out the clock for a 28-21 victory over the Owls.

"I thought we were in the right spots a lot of the time," said coach Kevin Fitzgerald. "But we didn't make the plays when we needed to."

The Owls trailed by just one score at halftime. Tyler Furey scored a 57-yard touchdown run, then backup Timberlane QB Jason Huges bolted in from 12 yards out to make it 22-14 at halftime.

After Dover added to their advantage, Hughes struck again with a 38-yard touchdown run to once again make the lead just seven.

"He stepped up and made some nice plays with his legs," said Fitzgerald. "He has seen limited reps at quarterback. He has mostly been a receiver and safety."

But the Owls' late drive fell short and Dover ate away the clock.

"We had a lot of trouble getting off the field on third down," said Fitzgerald. "We allowed about 473 yards and 22 first downs. We missed tackles in space, and that hurt us."

Furey led the Owls with 118 yards on 12 carries and Hughes added 60 yards rushing and 42 passing, all to Andy Agusta.
