EDFORD — By the time Medford ran its first play for positive yardage, Haverhill was up three scores.

Chance Brady exploded in the first quarter for three touchdowns and Taylor Sullivan added an interception for a score as the Hillies won their second game in three weeks, 28-0, over the Mustangs at Hormel Stadium.

Haverhill was helped by the return of Connor Tufts, who missed the first two games of the season with a separated shoulder. Tufts, the team's powerful 215-pound fullback, made his presence known on the opening drive, laying demolishing blocks that sent an echoing boom throughout the soggy stadium.

Tufts also worked into the offense, taking a carry and catching two passes.

"He allows us to be a more balanced team," said Haverhill head coach Tim O'Connor. "I'll tell you what, he's a football player. He's another weapon for us out there and along with the line, just did an incredible job opening holes. We were able to do a lot more on offense with him on the field."

Brady broke free for a 50-yard touchdown on the second play of the game, going up the gut with Tufts' lead and breaking four tackles as he cut to the right to outrun every Mustang on the field.

After an interception on the Medford 31 on the ensuing drive, Haverhill took over with Blaine Joia rushing twice on reverses for 26 yards, setting up a Brady 5-yard sprint for another score.

On the next drive, quarterback Tommy Morgan hit Taylor Sullivan on a quick out route for a 10-yard pickup that kept the drive alive on a key third down on the Medford 35.

"Key plays," O'Connor said. "We made plays when we had to."

Haverhill, which had lost 32 straight games entering the season, is almost undefeated with a one-point loss to Triton last week its only blemish.

"Last week taught us something," Brady said.

O'Connor agreed saying, "I think we were a little humbled last week. It just showed us that after that Malden game, we weren't as good as we thought we were. It was a much more complete game from us."

Haverhill's dominance was most visible on defense. Medford only gained 69 yards of total offense and 66 of those yards came on one play, a big run by Nick Olivier in the second half.

The 2-1 Hillies will visit Andover Friday to open their MVC schedule
