The Lancers Marching Band and Color Guard are gearing up for next summer's trip to Beijing, where it will perform at the 2008 Olympic Youth Festival as a prelude to the 2008 Olympics. It's just another feather in the shako | or cap | for the 347-member marching unit.
The 10-day trip will add to the band's already impressive resume, which includes the three Rose Bowl Parades in Pasadena, Calif., the 2000 Orange Bowl in Miami and the 2002 Citrus Parade in Orlando. They also appear annually in the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The band's fall half-time show is called "Music of America" and has three parts | western, jazz, and rock and roll. Director Andy Soucy chose this theme with the international audience in mind, since 270 of its members will play in China for four televised performances. The field show was written and directed by Assistant Director Serge Beaulieu, with Danielle Lucas coaching the color guard.
