Heart of Lyons

Mike Abi-Aad scored both goals as Salem knocked off Winnacunnet, 2-1, in opening-round Class L action.

John Lyons made one spectacular save with 10 minutes left, but couldn't clear it due to the wet conditions. A Winnacunnet forward pounced and booted a screamer off Lyons' face from close range but he made the save and wrapped up the rebound.

Salem 1, Goffstown 0

It took two overtimes, but Salem was able to knock off Goffstown 1-0. Deep into the second OT session, Matt Zani picked up a loose ball on the right flank and pushed it to Tyler Rutledge, who was positioned in the corner. Rutledge, notcing the keeper was out of position, chipped the ball off the far post and into the gaping net to push Salem to 8-7.

Dow Report

Senior Chris Dow, formerly a defensive midfielder, continues to impress at striker. The Timberlane co-captain notched his fourth two-goal game of the year in a 3-1 win over Salem. Dow now has 10 goals, which was his goal for the season.

Giving and taking away

Salem's Joey Morgan sent a crossing pass to Brett Miller, who blasted the ball home with just a minute left on the clock to send the game into overtime. But the Blue Devils allowed a goal with just two minutes left in OT and fell to Manchester Central 3-2 in in a battle of undefeated teams.

Brian Smart cut across the front of the net and one-timed a shot to the near post to give Salem a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Merrimack.  Cody Eller fed Smart for the game-winner and Taylor Morin made seven saves.
