Hard-luck loss

Belmont beat Whittier, 1-0, in the Division 2 North prelims. Nate Hartley threw a 1- hitter with 11 Ks to outduel Brendan Dodier (6.1 innings, 1 unearned run, 4 hits). Whittier's Ben Hadley had a third inning single. The Cats had the bases loaded in the sixth but couldn't score.

Dietenhofer homers, then Whittier walks off

Whittier freshman Nate Dietenhofer sent the game into extra innings with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, then Anthony Oliveri drove home David Garcia with a game-winning RBI single in the eighth to give the Wildcats a 6-5 walk-off win over Greater Lowell.

 David Garcia had a key RBI in a five-run first and James Ball had a key RBO double in the four-run fourth at Whittier moved back to ,500 (5-5) with a 9-3 win over Lowell Catholic.

Brendan Dodier threw a 3-hitter as Whittier trimmed Northeast, 4-3. Shortstop Justin Gauthier and second baseman Manny Cepeda led a defense which turned three double plays.

Fay does it all

Zach Fay struck out six and allowed just five hits in a complete game, while going 4 for 5 at the plate with a triple and double, one run scored and an RBI to lead Whittier past Essex Tech 10-3. Brendan Dodier added three hits, four runs and two RBIs for the winners.

Dynamic Dodier

Brendan Dodier pitched 2.2 innings of shutout relief with 4 Ks and also scored two runs to lift Whittier past Greater Lawrence, 8-4. Ryan Gregoire got the win and Manny Cepeda added two hits and two runs. The Reggies' Casey Neilon scored twice.

WHittier eruption


Whittier scored seven runs in the second and eight in the fifth in an 18-4 romp over Greater Lawrence. Manny Cepeda was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored and winning pitcher Zach Fay was 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Tyler Harrington was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. For the Reggies, Chris Frica homered over the fence onto the Whittier track.
