DERRY, N.H. — Pinkerton surrendered just one basket to archrival Londonderry in the fourth quarter, giving the Astros two shots at a dramatic finish.

But a lay-up attempt to take the lead with 0:44 left just spun out, a 3-pointer to tie the game with 0:17 to go was barely off the mark, and the No. 10 Lancers hit seven straight free throws down the stretch to beat No. 7 Pinkerton 46-43 in the first round of the Division 1 girls basketball tournament on Wednesday.

Sofia Riccio scored 14 points and Avah Ingalls added 13 as Pinkerton's girls (12-6) pulled away in the second half for a 45-31 victory.

Phillips Academy senior Marisol Nugent, in the first-ever girls division at the National Prep Wrestling Tournament, captured the 144-pound weight class at Lehigh Friday. She had three straight pins, including over No. 1-seed Reese Larramendy of Wyoming Seminary in the finals. Her brother, Colin, was 2-2 in the boys division but did not place.

Jesse Ames scored a team-high 15 points to lead Pinkerton to a 41-33 victory over Windham. Sarah Dempsey scored 16 points for the Jaguars.

Sisters Alli and Avah Ingalls each scored 14 points to lead Pinkerton to a 50-41 win over archrival Londonderry. It was a season-high for the the junior Alli, who hit four 3s.

Pinkerton's girls used its defense to put down Nashua North, 50-36. Jesse Ames led the Astros (8-3) offensively with 16 points.

Led by the 19 points of Avah Ingalls, Pinkerton zoomed to a 28-9 lead on its way to a 48-30 win over Concord. The Astros improved to 7-2 in New Hampshire.

Avah Ingalls continued her breakout sophomore season with a season-high 25-point performance with four 3s to lead Pinkerton to a 47-43 win over Salem. Jesse Ames chipped in with 10 points for the Astros, while Stella Hazelton (13 points, 4 3s) and Olivia Murray (12 points) led the Blue Devils

After two close setbacks, Pinkerton's girls won their first game of the season, 48-39 over Cambridge Rindge & Latin, led by the 15 points of Avah Ingalls.

In the Blue Devil Class, Pinkerton fell to Hollis-Brookline in double-OT 63-58 despite 20 points from Jesse Ames.
