Andover golfers 8th

 

BOYLSTON — Led by Mac Lee, the Andover golf team finished sixth Monday at the Division 1 state tournament at The Haven Country Club.

Lincoln-Sudbury led the way with an impressive four-player score of 300, three strokes better than Xaverian. Perennial power St. John's Prep was third.

Lee takes first, Haverhill and Central win team gold

Andover's Mac Lee shot an even-par 72 to win the Merrimack Valley Conference Championship Individual title on Thursday at Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro. The Boston College-bound Lee placed third last fall. 


Haverhill and Central Catholic tied for the team title, each finishing with a final score of 243. Andover was right behind in third with a 244.


Central was led by Mikey Yfantopulos (74) in second overall and defending champ Josh Lavallee (77) in third. 


Haverhill was paced by No. 4 overall Sean Crockett (81) and No. 12  Jackson DiFloures (84). 


North Andover was fifth, led by Adam Heinze (80), who finished in a tie for sixth with Andover's Nick Ventura

Robbins, Lavallee win titles

The Merrimack Valley Conference did itself proud in sectional golf competition Monday with a pair of individual champions.

For the second year in a row, Central Catholic's Josh Lavallee was the medalist in the Division 1 tournament while, in Division 2, North Andover sophomore James Robbins won the championship.

Knights snap Andover's streak

Adam Heinze earned medalist honors by shooting a 33, winning his match 2-and-1 and helping North Andover deal Andover its first loss of the season, 11.5-8.5. Adding wins for the Scarlet Knights (10-2) were Jack Fay, Jon Finn and Tyler Fay.

Tommy and Timmy time

Andover golf's undefeated season was on the line. The Warriors trailed Chelmsford 9-6 after the first six groups had come through, but No. 7 and No. 8 golfers Tommy Tavenner (2up) and Timmy Kobelski (3&1) both won their matches outright to lift their team to an 11-9 win.

Staying perfect

With Andover holding a one-point lead heading into the final two matches of the day, Noah Farland and Cade Cederchuk each scored 6-3 wins to clinch the Golden Warriors' 38-34 victory over Belmont. Andover improved to 12-0 for the season.

The Andover golf team showed off its depth in a clean, 20-0, sweep of Central Catholic. Perrenial all-star Mac Lee earned an impressive 5-and-4 win at No. 1 over Central Catholic stud Josh Lavallee, who was our MVP last year.
