Pins galore

The Georgetown-Ipswich wrestling team picked up seven wins by pin, all in the first round, as it routed Malden 42-18 on Thursday night. Tre Aulson, Jei Yeaton and Matt Mansfield all got their pins in under a minute, and with the win the Royals are now 8-1-1 on the year.

Knox wins title


Pentucket 8th grader Tyler Knox continued his 106-pound rivalry with Salem's Calvin Dalton Saturday and this time he won decisively, 13-6, to claim first at the Cape Ann League/Northeast Conference meet.

Winning Royals

Georgetown-Ipswich wrestling swept its Saturday quad-meet with Salem (MA), Essex Tech and Waltham-Weston, improving the team to 15-4 and guarenteeing the team's fifth straight winning season. Matt Mansfield, Zach Beauvais and John Blythe each went 3-0 on the day.

Georgetown wins two

Sophomore Troy Forgitano went 3-0 on the day, and Robbie Blythe went 2-1 in his first day back as Georgetown-Ipswich wrestling won two out of three at Saturday's quad-meet, beating Sandwich 42-22 and Leominster 43-24 while losing to Brookline 45-15. Georgetown is now 11-4 on the season.

Georgetown sweeps super-quad

Georgetown-Ipswich wrestling knocked off Everett, Gloucester, Saugus and Tyngsboro in quick succession on Saturday to improve to 9-2 on the season. John Blythe and Matt Mansfield both went 4-0 on the day, and Connor Young went 3-1.

Avenges loss


Andrew Buzzell avenged his only loss on the season to Marblehead's Armani Dotson, controlling the entire match before getting a pin in the second period as Whittier beat Marblehead/Swampscott and Pentucket but fell to Georgetown. For Pentucket, which beat Georgetown and Marblehead, Tyler Knox remained undefeated at 106 and Jason Young, Jake Slevosky and Pete D'Agostino were all 3-0. Georgetown-Ipswich went 2-1, and Matt Mansfield went 3-0 at 152 pounds.

Sachems win own tournament


WEST NEWBURY —  Something different happened at the Pentucket Wrestling Tournament Wednesday and it took head Pentucket coach Dennis Puleo by surprise.

For the first time in 17 years, the Sachems — without any seniors — won their own tournament, and in impressive fashion at that, finishing with 144 1/2 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Whittier (123). The Timberlane B team was in third with 111 1/2.

Durkin gets 100th win

Triton's Jared Durkin got a first round pin to pick up the 100th win of his career, helping the Vikings edge past Georgetown-Ipswich 37-36 on Thursday. Durkin has enjoyed a terrific career, starting as a standout freshman at Triton before spending his junior year away at the Hyde School in Maine.

Royals pin down Malden Catholic

The Georgetown-Ipswich wrestling team took a convincing win over Malden Catholic on Wednesday, recording six pins in the 51-30 win. Heavyweight Nick Frongillo won the match of the day, pinning his opponent late in the third round (5:22), while Brandon Odle (106 pounds) and Troy Forgitano (120 pounds) finished their business quicky, pinning their opponents in 36 and 37 seconds respectively.
