ANDOVER — Six weeks may have passed, but Andover’s memories of the 21-point October loss to Chelmsford on the Eugene V. Lovely Field turf were all too fresh.

So last night, the Golden Warriors earned their redemption.

LAWRENCE — For most of three quarters, Lawrence withstood every punch Chelmsford threw and remained within striking distance, cutting the deficit to six points in the third.

But a pair of golden opportunities both ended up as turnovers on downs, and the Lions took control, besting the Lancers 47-27 last night.

LAWRENCE — D’Andre Drummond-Mayrie had been waiting for this moment.

The senior had been waiting for it since last season’s Thanksgiving disappointment and the 2010 Turkey Day loss, both of which cost playoff trips. He had been waiting for it since he first strapped on a Central Catholic football helmet as a freshman.

ANDOVER — Just before kickoff last night in Andover, the stadium lights blacked out at Eugene V. Lovely Field, causing a nearly 40-minute delay.

Unfortunately for the Golden Warriors, it wasn’t much better from there, as they fell behind by 22 points in the second quarter and lost to Chelmsford 43-22.
