Nearing tourney



Andover's softball team took a big step toward qualifying for the state tournament with an 11-1 romp over Haverhill. The Warriors (9-9) got a strong pitching performance from Kassandra Hunt and banged out 12 hits, including three from Taylor Farris, who scored three times.

Bradley delivers




Courtney Bradley had an RBI double in the bottom of ther sixth, knocking in Roseli Rodriguez, who opened the inning with a bunt single, as Methuen rallied past scrappy Haverhill 5-4. Caitlyn McHugh was 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored for Haverhill.

Freshman Brett Johnson fired a two-hitter as Haverhill romped past PMA 16-1. Haley DeRoche had a huge day with two doubles a homer and five RBIs and Caitlyn McHugh added four hits, four runs and four RBIs.

Haverhill's softball team won its third straight game for the first time in at least five years, ripping Notre Dame 10-3. Freshman Brett Johnson had two doubles and was 3 for 4 and senior Alex MacArthur had three RBIs.

Sophomore Susan Murphy had three hits and five RBIs and classmate Theresa Ross added three hits and four RBIs as Haverhill slapped Lawrence 21-6.

"That's the hardest we've hit the ball in two years," said Haverhill coach Andy Reusch.

Late inning heroics for Haverhill

With two outs in the seventh, Kayla Pellot singled to plate two runs, then scored on a single by Caitlyn McHugh as Haverhill topped Pentucket 9-6. Hayley DeRoche drove in four runs for the Hillies while Sydney Snow had two hits and two RBIs for the Sachems, who rallied back from a 7-0 deficit to tie the game.

Led by freshman Olivia Antczak, three Central Catholic pitchers combined on a no-hitter, with 14 strikeouts as the Raiders whipped Haverhill 5-0 to start the season. Attczak struck out six in four innings to pick up the win. Krista  Maloney had a pair of hits and three RBIs to lead the offense.
