Haverhill bests Methuen

CARL RUSSO/Staff photo. The Haverhill High swim team won their eight straight swim meet by defeating Methuen High 97-81 Tuesday afternoon. The Methuen Rangers cheer for their teammate, junior, Allie Hawkes as she competes in the 500 freestyle race. Unstoppable Andover smashes 6 records

Andover put on a show at the MVC 1 swimming and diving championships, setting a stunning six league marks and 66 personal bests. The record-breakers included: surging Maggie D'Innoncenzo (200 IM, 500 free, 400 free relay), Rachel Moore (100 fly, 100 back, 400 free relay), Ashlee Korsberg (100 breaststroke, 400 free relay) and Monica Patterson (400 free relay).

Seven seniors were able to help Haverhill swimming win its seventh meet in a row. Haverhill was led by senior captains Molly Gibbs, Amanda Murrin, Carianne Doyle and Ann Schramm, Rebecca Finnigan, Tatiana Wabreck, and Emily Fay.

Sarah Broderick set lifetime bests for the 100 and 50 freestyle swims in Haverhill's win over Central Catholic 96-88. Sarah had a time of 54.72 for the 100 freestyle and 24.83 for the 50 freestyle.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Alyssa Nelson, Meaghan Broderick, Cali Aramian and Sarah Broderick swam a season-best 3:59.09 as Haverhill defeated visiting St. Peter Marian of Worcester, 95-83.

Underclassmen shine for Haverhill

Freshman Maggie Franklin won both the 200 and 500 freestyle races, leading Haverhill to its first victory of the year, 97-81 over Billerica. Sophomore Sarah Broderick remained undefeated in the 50 freestyle (3-0) after earning first place in 25 seconds.  She also won the 100 freestyle.

Debra Daly of Andover won her highly anticipated diving match during their swim meet against Haverhill. Daly scored 229.65 points to take first place.
