Rule of Lowell

 

A year after Methuen's boys cross country team trounced Lowell to clinch top honors in the Merrimack Valley Conference race, the Red Raiders got their revenge and then some, whipping Methuen 15-47. Lowell captured six of the top seven places with only Lawrence's Luis Cruz breaking up the pack, finishing second in an excellent time of 15:07. Unbeaten Lowell also beat Lawrence 19-44.

Hanging on

 

Methuen's boys cross country team took the top two places and four of the top seven but, because its fifth man lagged back in the pack, it just escaped with a 28-29 win over Chelmsford. Cam Kelley was clocked in 16:14 for 5K to take top honors.

Andover shocks Methuen

METHUEN — All good things must come to an end, and the Andover boys cross country team proved that to Methuen yesterday.

With an excellent team effort, the Golden Warriors snapped Methuen's 26-meet winning streak, defeating the Rangers in a dual meet for the first time in 11 years. The score ended in a 28-28 tie, but Andover was awarded the win because sixth runner Tim Lyman finished in front of Methuen's sixth man.

Cam Kelley, Lucas Parsons and Mike O'Donnell took the top three spots as Methuen swept Central Catholic, Billerica and Dracut. Central defeated Dracut but fell one point shy of Billerica.

Methuen senior Cam Kelley continued his auspicious start to the season, cruising to first place in the Rangers' 17-42 victory over Tewksbury. The only returning runner from last year's top six, Kelley was clocked in 15:53 for three miles.
