ANDOVER — After a frustrating first half, Andover High knew something had to change.

“We didn’t have a groove in the first half,” said Jen Caro. “But after the half, we finally got into the flow of things, and once the goals start coming it’s tough to break that chain.”

Avenging an earlier non-league defeat, North Andover not only prevailed against Masconomet, 11-9, but earned  a share of the Cape Ann League Large title with Triton at 9-1. With Jenna Armstrong (walking pneumonia) out of the lineup, junior Maggie Samuelman stepped up huge for the Scarlet Knights with five goals and an assist. Freshman Pam Coufos drew the tough defensive assignment, faceguarding BU-bound Sidney Godett, and did an exemplary job along with Kelly O'Connor, who forced five turnovers.

A shot at the title

Led by a six-goal, three-assist blitz from Jenna Armstrong, North Andover pummelled Newburyport, 18-9, and will earn a share of the Cape Ann League Large title with a win at Masconomet Monday night. Kelly O'Connor showed precision in controlling draws against the Clippers and Olivia Boudreau was key in kick-starting a strong fast-break for the victors.

North Andover 16, North Reading 5

Meghan Connolly, Julie Rose and Erica Zahoruiko shut down North Reading's offense effectively as North Andover rolled to a 16-5 victory. Kelly O'Connor and Maggie Samuelman led a balanced Scarlet Knight offense with three goals apiece. Chandler Knight's two goals paced the Hornets.

Koufos corrals Connal in vain

Stepping up to play a defending Division 1 finalist, Eastern Mass. Division 2 finalist North Andover neutralized Pinkerton's main scoring threat but still suffered a 7-5 setback. Kristen Wolenski, Vicki Kuhn and Rory Fawcett scored two goals apiece, compensating for a scoreless Kacie Connal as the UNH-bound senior was effectively face-guarded by Scarlet Knight freshman Pam Koufos. Emily Samuelman scored three goals for North Andover.

Samuelman saves day

Quinnipiac-bound Emily Samuelman scored with 40 seconds left to send North Andover's game against Hamilton-Wenham into overtime. Samuelman scored five goals to help Andover win 15-13. First-year varsity player Olivia Boudreau scored and played some strong defense.
