Hornets dominate Marblehead, earn trip to North finals

The Manchester Essex field hockey team has finally made it over the hump.

After five straight years of falling in the Division 2 North semifinal, the Hornets have reached the final. Their ticket was punched after a 2-0 win over Marblehead yesterday at North Andover High School's Joe Walsh Field.

Hornets advance to Division 2 North semifinals

One step closer.

That's what members of the Manchester Essex field hockey team were saying after their 3-0 win over Watertown in the Division 2 North quarterfinal yesterday at Rockport High School. With the win, the top-seeded Hornets (18-1-1) move to the semifinals, one step closer to the team's goal of a state championship.

Manchester-Essex gets by Rockport

After beating Rockport, 6-0 earlier in the season, the Hornets had a tougher time in the Vikings season-finale. Simone Bodmer-Turner scored the lone goal for the Hornets (16-1-1) with seven minutes remaining in the second half. Vikings (4-15) goalie Kayleigh Keating kept her team in the game with 15 saves. Rockport defenders Kaitlyn Carter, Elizabeth Saville, Emma Littlefield and Mary Elizabeth McGillicuddy also played well.

The Hornets got a goal from Lee Stroman, but it was only good for a tie. Senior Simone Bodmer-Turner picked up an assist and Sarah Merullo and Meredith Crofton also played well for Manchester Essex (8-1-1).

Over the last five years, the Manchester Essex field hockey team has been a powerhouse, making the Division 2 North semifinals in each season during that span.

This fall, the Hornets are hoping to finally get past that point, and Molly Foye is doing everything in her power to help accomplish that goal.

Six different goal scorers sparked a 6-0 Manchester Essex shutout over Rockport. Molly Foye did an excellent job finding her teammates, dishing out three assists along with one of the goals. Kayleigh Keating was spectacular, stopping 34 shots for the Vikings.

Thomas propels Manchester-Essex to victory

Manchester Essex defeated North Reading 4-0. Stephanie Lamattina scored three goals and Molly Thomas also notched a goal to lead the Hornets, who got three assists from Simone Bodmer-Turner. Anneliese Brosch also added an assist for Manchester in the season opener.
