Salem takes tourney revenge

It was just one month ago that Pinkerton dealt Salem a 3-0 sweep. But the Blue Devils took their revenge in the tournament.

Melissa Ouellet had a team-best eight blocks and nine kills as No. 4 Salem downed No. 5 Pinkerton 25-21, 25-13, 25-27, 25-17 in the Division 1 quarterfinals. Courtney Wright added 12 kills for the winners, while McKayla Floyd led the way with 36 assists for the Astros.

Offensive Blue Devils advance

The Salem Blue Devils had "Our best offensive game of the year", said coach Dan Young. Beating Exeter 3 games to 1 in a highly competitive game. "Earlier in the year we won 3 games to 2", Young said,"I knew going in it would be a hard fought."  Salem's season high was 14 kills, last night they had 18 kills from Nicole Boucher, 16 Kills from Melissa Ouellet and 13 kills from Courtney Wright. Sarah Scott had a season high 49 assists. Salem moves on to play Pinkerton, saturday at 6 p.m.

And she's just a junior

Salem High School Varsity Girls Volleyball player Sarah Scott had her 1,000th assist during their game against Trinity on Monday evening.5 Photos

Sarah Scott hit a milestone in her volleyball career, notching her 1,000th assist as Salem easily handled Trinity last night, 3-0.

Only a junior, Scott achieved the feat in just her second season of varsity competition as part of a team-high 12-assist evening. She also led the Blue Devils in service points (14), aces (4) and digs (7) while contributing four blocks.

Tilton the Scales

A pair of 10-3 teams, Salem and Goffstown squared off Wednesday night. Salem sweep through Goffstown on "The most complete game we played to date" said Coach Dan Young. Young said " Erica Tilton defense, passing off the serve was the difference maker for us tonight." Tilton had 5 total digs, Young said the box score does not tell the story of the game. Team mates Sarah Scott 11 Service Points and 27 assists, Erica Begin six blocks and Nicole Boucher 12 kills all played great as well.

Marathon win for Devils

Salem's volleyball team scored at least 25 points in the first four games, but it lost two of those, 27-25, and needed a fifth game to edge Exeter 3-2. Melissa Ouellet led Salem with 17 kills and 11 blocks and Steph Long had 17 service points.

Salem ties Londonderry

Salem beats Londonderry 3 games to 1, the win tied Salem with Londonderry with 7-2 records each. Nicole Boucher filled the box score with 4 blocks, 7 kills, 14 service points and 5 aces. Erica Tilton had 9 diggs and 14 Service points with 4 aces. Salem faces Nashua friday, Nashua has a 7-1 record going into Friday's game.

Dynamic duo

Kacie Connal and Mikayla Floyd were both on top of their game as Pinkerton (6-1) shut out Salem (6-2) in girls volleyball in surprisingly easy fashion. Connal had 12 kills to offically go over the 500 mark for her career and led in blocks while Mikayla Floyd led the team in assists (23) and service points (13).

Blue Devils net opening win

Despite healthy competition for some starting spots, Salem's girls volleyball team got off to a winning start, topping Manchester Memorial, 3-0. Junior Amy Wheeler came off the bench to provide seven service points, four aces, one dig and no service errors. Sarah Scott led the Blue Devils with 18 assists, 14 service points and 5 aces. "We have a veteran crew with a lot of athletes," said Salem head coach Dan Young. "People are fighting for spots on the floor."
