Andover girls prevail

The Andover girls soccer team defeated Methuen for the second time this year, but this time it was in the Division 1 North tournament, 3-1.The Golden Warriors, who face Winchester today at Woburn, moved ahead in the first half on goals by Gabby Cappello and Michaela Van Antwerp and added an insurance goal in the second half.

Despite missing six players with the flu, including five starters, Methuen's girls soccer team (8-6-1) defeated Somerville 2-0 to qualify for the state tournament for the first time in nine years.

Streaking Rangers

Methuen tripped MVC Small-leading Haverhill, 3-2, to stretch its winning streak to five games. Karen Lima scored twice and Alex Levesque scored a goal for the seventh straight game. Earlier in the week the Rangers dumped a tough Dracut squad.

Rebecca Caterino came back after an 11-game absence due to mononucleosis and the Methuen junior keeper helped her team to a 3-2 win over Tewksbury. Tri-captain Rachel Condon, a defender, scored her first varsity goal, heading in a corner kick.
