Central Catholic's boys cross country team was missing its No. 2-4 runners because of injury and illness, but it still managed a 22-37 win over Haverhill. Nate Webber won the meet and imroving junior Mike Vitulli and senior Keagan Westwater stepped up as the No. 4 and 5 runners to help provide the win.

Chelmsford 0, Methuen 15, Central Catholic 45

Methuen rolled past Central Catholic and Chelmsford in a tri-meet, taking the top six spots. The two victories stretched the Rangers' win streak to 23 meets dating back to early in 2007. This ties the school record, which was set in the early 2000s, said coach Bill James.

Youngsters moving up

The Central Catholic boys cross country team is off to a 2-0 start, and a big reason is the improvement of two youngsters.

In yesterday's 15-48 rout of Tewksbury, sophomore Adam Gidley was second in 17:53 over the hilly 3.0-mile Lawrence course, just 10 seconds behind teammate Nate Webber, and junior Nick Morris was fourth. Morris was the Raiders' seventh man last year.

Methuen 8th at McIntyre Invite

Running without top runners Jared Reddy and Ben Pare, both of whom are battling the flu, Methuen's boys cross country team still finished eighth among 36 teams in the Division 1 race at the McIntyre Invitational.
