No. 4 North Andover outshot No. 12 Brookline 29-6 on its way to a 4-1 quarterfinal victory in the Division 1 North playoffs.

Knights close with flurry

With the score tied at 1-1, North Andover capped a Cape Ann League championship season with a classic goal.

Amanda Foote smartly crossed the ball which deflected off Sarah Warden's stick into the air. Enter Michelle Martin, who swatted the ball out of mid-air and drilled it for the game-winner with about 10 minutes to play.

North Andover 4, Wilmington 1

In a game that decided the CAL championship, North Andover (14-1-3) downed Wilmington (12-2-4) 4-1 behind three goals from the Knights' three senior captains. Candie Waldie, Sarah Warden and Meg Twomey all scored in the first half to give North Andover a lead it would never relenguish. Krysta Perryman added a second-half tally and Steph Twomey made three saves in net.

North Andover's field hockey team blanked Hamilton-Wenham 3-0 to clinch at least a share of the Cape Ann League large school title. A victory against Wilmington today will give the title to the Knights outright.

Knights win Breen battle

"It was the Battle of the Breens,'' said North Andover field hockey coach Courtney Breen after her club beat North Reading, 4-0. The Hornets are coached by her sister Linsday. "We'd never coached against each other. I coached St. A's and she played at Stonehill. She won every time. I think three times. It wasn't really revenge. She's done an amazing job with the program.''

Star forward Candace Waldie is still out with a knee injury, but it hasn't slowed down the North Andover field hockey team much.

The Knights blanked Rockport 1-0 yesterday, outshooting their opponents 26-3, while improving their record to 7-1-2.
