WEST NEWBURY | The future certainly looks bright for the youthful Amesbury Indians, but in order to get there, they'll need to exorcise past demons.

The Pentucket Sachems, who've beaten the Indians seven consecutive times, would qualify as one of those demons. After the Sachems graduated 18 seniors and looked vulnerable in season-opening losses to Hamilton Wenham and Ipswich, this year appeared to be the one for Amesbury to end the losing streak.

AMESBURY -- One year later it was the same score, the same weather, but one infinitely happier group of Indians. After losing 20-0 a year ago in the rain and sleet, Amesbury proudly hoisted the J. Walter Chase trophy in Landry Stadium in front of its soggy faithful after shutting out Newburyport by the identical score in the 84th meeting in the storied rivalry.

BYFIELD | The calendar may have said Friday 13th, but there were no horror shows for the Amesbury football team in Byfield last night as the Indians scored 13 unanswered points in the second half to post a commanding, 23-6 win, and in doing so serve notice to the rest of the league that they plan on hanging around for the long haul.

AMESBURY | Amesbury fought a valiant, uphill battle against Masconomet's Bunker brothers at Landry Stadium last night but ultimately the Indians' gutsy performance against the mighty non-league opponent came up short as the Chieftains desperate to make a statement on both sides of the ball came out aggressively, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives en route to downing the Indians, 29 to 6.

AMESBURY | Marion Wilder's 59-yard touchdown jaunt provided Amesbury with a strong opening statement on its first drive of the game at Landry Field, but Wilmington quickly silenced Wilder and knocked the rest of Amesbury's offensive unit off script as well as the Wildcats shredded Amesbury, 30-13.

AMESBURY -- The Hamilton-Wenham passing game has grabbed all the headlines this season, but it was the Generals power running game which spelled disaster for Amesbury last night as the Indians fell, 13-3, at a windswept Landry Stadium. The loss dropped the Indians to 3-3 and put them in a major hole in the CAL Small race with a 1-1 mark. H-W improved to 4-2 and 2-0 in the conference.

AMESBURY | After playing an inspired game against cross town rival and Merrimack Valley League power Central Catholic last week, Lawrence coach Mike Yameen was more than a little disappointed with his team's effort in last night's 26-6 loss to Amesbury.
