Pentucket's April O'Brien and Alanna Poretta tied for first (19:19). Amy Babeau placed fifth (20:31) for the Sachems (9-3). Triton's Colleen Loughlin (third, 19:41), Erin Loughlin (fourth, 19:51), and Sara Auwerda (sixth, 20:59) placed the Vikings (7-5).

Disappointing duel

The battle of unbeatens wasn't much of a duel, as North Andover's Kirsten Kasper ran away from Pentucket's Alanna Poretta in a tri-meet at North Reading.

Kasper ran a blistering 16:13 over the 2.9-mile course, more than a minute ahead of Poretta (17:17) as the Knights defeated the Sachems 25-31.

Pentucket's Alanna Poretta and April O'Brien settled for a vertal tie in a 17-44 win over Ipswich yesterday, with both running a comfortable 20:18 for 3.1 miles. It served as a warmup for Poretta's anticipated duel with North Andover's Kirsten Kasper.

Alanna Poretta placed first (18:48) at Pipestave Course. She held off Emily Lanois (19:09) of Hamilton-Wenham — one of the top runners in the state. April O'Brien (19:44) placed fifth. Amy Babeau (20:42) finished seventh. Caroline Babeau (22:14) finished 13th.

Poretta stands out in defeat

Pentucket sophomore Alanna Poretta won her duel with Masconomet senior standout Abby D’Agostino, but it wasn’t enough as the Sachems fell to the Chieftains 27-30. Poretta pulled away for an 18:41 on Bradley Palmer’s 3.1-mile layout, nine seconds ahead of D’Agostino. April O’Brien was third in 20:01 and Amy Babeu was seventh for the Sachems (3-1), who did defeat Wilmington 25-30.
