BILLERICA – The season’s end came suddenly and decisively for the North Andover boys hockey. And for the second time in three years, its demise came in the Division 2 North semifinals.

BILLERICA — As the pass from behind the net found his stick, Jimmy Boyle struggled for a split second to control the puck.

Then, the North Andover senior took care of business.

Senior defenseman Keegan Hughes spearheaded a suffocating North Andover defense, and the Knights got five different goal-scorers to take a 5-0 lead in an eventual 5-2 win over Lynnfield in the Division 2 North first round. The Knights will now play league rival Tewksbury in the quarterfinals Friday at 7:15 p.m. at Chelmsford. In the regular season, the Knights beat the Redmen 5-2 and then tied 2-2 in their other matchup.

Andrew Perry scored two goals to lead North Andover to a 4-1 victory over Methuen. The Scarlet Knights held a 56-12 shot advantage for the game. Jackson Petisce scored for the Rangers.

Junior Ben Williamson made some big saves in net and Cole Fagan got the game-winner as North Andover (11-3-5) edged Beverly, 2-1,

HAVERHILL — Thomas Doherty was frustrated.

He knew, as the puck rang off the post, that he had just missed the second goal of his varsity career.

“I hit that post and I knew I missed an easy goal,” said the junior. “So I had to get the puck back. My teammates got it back to me, and I didn’t miss that time.”

Led by three goals from TJ Fredo, the North Andover boys hockey team beat Boston Latin, which came into the game ranked No. 16 in EMass by the Boston Globe, 4-0. Patrick Green made 21 saves to earn the shutout.

With three seconds left in regulation, Andrew Perry scored a goal to bring North Andover to a 3-3 tie with Concord-Carlisle. Under the new format, the game technically ends in a tie, but Jimmy Boyle scored in overtime for the Knights (7-2-1).

NORTH ANDOVER — In the moment, North Andover goalie Patrick Green couldn’t remember the last time he faced a penalty shot in game action.

When called upon Saturday, however, he was more than up to the task.

Cole Fagan scored a goal and added four assists as North Andover rolled past Wayland 9-2.
