Perhaps motivated by watching the story of Ernie Davis in "The Express," Phillips did most of its damage on the ground, rushing for 365 yards on 41 carries. Sam Auffont and Eddie Houghton led the way. Auffonr rushed for 143 yards on just eight carries and Houghton gained 198 yards on 18 carries, and both scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Dan Hussey only threw nine passes, but five of them were completions and two went for touchdowns, the first for 14 yards to Andover's Sam Clark. Defensively, down lineman Reid Mosquera of Andover was in on six tackles, Clark had a sack and three other tackles and Mike Bernieri had two sacks and two other tackles. "It was good to get home and it was a good win," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste. "Defensively, we played very well."
