Girls volleyball

Led by Amanda Saab (16 service points, 14 kills, seven aces), the Salem girls volleyball team defeated Londonderry 25-14, 25-22, 25-11 to advance to the Class L semifinals. The Blue Devils also had big contributions from Sarah Scott (25 assists) and Becca Weiss (nine digs) en route to their fourth-straight quarterfinal round victory.

No. 6 Londonderry downed No. 11 Nashua South 27-25, 25-16, 25-20 in the first round of the Class L tourney. Hanna Collins led the Lancers in blocks (2), service points (12) and kills (10).

Londonderry got great performances from their seniors during senior night as the Lancers dropped Manchester Central 3-0. Senior Hanna Collins lead the team in kills, blocks and service points as classmates Brittany Buyck (14 assists) and Brianna Gibbons (3 kills) also played key roles. 

With setter Brittany Buyck out due to injury, Londonderry took one game to adjust to replacement Julie Wojewoda before romping to a 3-1 volleyball victory over Nashua South.

To think, Salem middle hitter Amanda Saab played field hockey in her freshman season. The 5-foot-11 senior notched her 500th career kill in the Blue Devils' 25-21, 26-24, 25-17 win over rival Londonderry last night.

On an uncommon off-night that turned into Londonderry's first girls volleyball loss of the season, Brittany Buyck continued her solid play. While the Lancers were hitting "at 'em" balls, according to head coach Peter Willis, and suffering many unforced errors against Winnacunnet, Buyck was a pillar of consistency. As the setter, she mastered up her sixth straight 20-assist effort.

Flying under the statistical radar, senior Sara Seaborne has been a solid contributor for the Londonderry girls volleyball team, and she did it again yesterday in a sweep of Alvirne.

Hanna Collins recorded nine kills and Megan Schwarz added eight as Londonderry topped Manchester West, 25-10, 25-18, 25-21. Katie Schwarz added 19 service points to help the Lancers improve to 2-0.

Superb serving and consistent pressure allowed Londonderry to overturn a huge deficit and defeat Merrimack, 26-28, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 15-13. Katie Schwarz notched a team-high 14 service points and Sara Seaborne was 15 for 15 serving.
