Hillies set stage

 

 

Haverhill remained unbeaten (20-0), winning  four meets in a home super quad-meet, setting the stage for a huge showdown at Shawsheen Wednesday to close out the dual-meet season. Four Hillies went unbeaten on the day, the most impressive being Kevin Fuller (113), while sophomore Jackson DiFloures (145) had a terrific 3-1 day and recorded a pivotal decision in a 42-27 win over Brookline.

Hillies win crown

 

Haverhill continued knocking off challenges Saturday.

Unbeaten in dual meets, the Hillies captured their second tournament in two weeks with an impressive performance, placing first in the Capital Classic in Concord, N.H. The Hillies won with 171.5 points, just one ahead of Rhode Island power Bishop Hendricken.

Central Catholic rolls

 

Lewy Baez (182) and Mando Binet (195) continued their fine seasons with a pair of wins as Central Catholic rolled over Beverly and Concord-Carlisle to improve to 15-1.

Baez pulls through

 

 

Lewy Baez prevailed with a 3-2 decision in a key 182-pound match to highlight Central Catholic's 42-22 victory over North Andover. Anthony Mears had a pin with 10 seconds left at heavyweight for the Raiders (13-1). Sean Milovanovic (113) and Jack Carbone (170) had impressive one-point wins for the Knights.

 Trailing 2-1, Matt Shaw recorded a pin with one second left in the match at 160 pounds to highlight unbeaten Central Catholic's 41-30 win over Chelmsford.

3 Glynns: 12-0, 12 pins

 

Central Catholic captured the Dameo Duals as the Glynn brothers, Jimmy, Mike and Tyler went 12-0 on the day with 12 pins. Lewy Baez was also 4-0 with four pins and Mando Binet was 4-0 with three pins at 195 while defeating Mashoba's Jack Childs, who was third at the Division 2 state meet last year, 3-1.

Timberlane in 3rd at Lowell

 

LOWELL — Timberlane's wrestling team stood in third place Thursday after the first day of the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament.

Surprising Springfield Central stands in first with 105 points followed by Concord (95), Timberlane (93.5) and Mount Anthony (90). Windham is in seventh and Pinkerton is eighth. The Astros, however, have the most quarterfinalists of any team with six.

Glynn trio leads way

 

For the second time this year, all three of Central Catholic's Glynn family captured tournament titles, this time at the Eagle Classic at Franklin Tech.

Freshman Jimmy Glynn was the 106-pound champ and was named tourney Outstanding Wrestler, Mike Glynn won at 120 and Tyler Glynn was the 138-pound champ. They fueled the Raiders to the team title in the 21-team field.

Hillies settle for 2nd

 

Haverhill's wrestling team battled Shawsheen all the way at the Sons of Italy tournament in Wilmington before settling for second, just ahead of Central Catholic.

The star of the day for the Hillies was heavyweight Jay Levy, who pinned all three of his opponents on his way to the title while remaining undefeated. Ben Davoli, who had a big win over Central's Jimmy Glynn in the semifinals, was second at 106 and Jake Nicolosi was second at 138, losing a tough 2-0 decision to Central's Tyler Glynn.
