One-touch magic

Lawrence boys soccer was playing spolier against a Billerica team that needed a win to qualify for the state tournament. Tied 1-1 late in the second half, Billerica sent everyone up on the attack in search for the winning goal. But that all changed when Anthony Gaitan stole the ball at midfield and passed it to freshamn Brandon Ramirez, who then sent a nice one-touch pass back. Gaitan curled in the winning goal from just outside the 18-yard-line to give the Lancers a 2-1 win.

Joltin' Joe

Defenseman Joe Carney scored his first goal of the year midway through the second half and Central Catholic held on for a 1-0 win over Billerica. Andrew DeMinico (4 saves) got the shutout and Dalton Dow and Ben Morris starred on defense.

May takes first

 

Haverhill's Keith May finished first in the junior-senior race at the Frank Kelly Invitational Saturday, leading from the start and finishing the  3K race in 10:05. Teammate Andrew Harrison was 12th in 10:47.
