Hurray for Rea

 

Neil Rea was a model of consistency with 35 assists and had four aces to lead Windham over Salem, 3-1,  in the quarterfinals of the state volleyball tournament. The Jaguars (13-4) now will face defending champion Timberlane in Thursday's 7 p.m. semifinals at Nashua North.

Gaither, Hillies shine

Haverhill High rowing recently competed in the Moose on the Malden regatta. The boys varsity eight, stroked by Aiden Gaither and coxed by Emily Benson, finished the 1,400-meter course in 4:52.52, The girls first varsity, stroked by Hailey Lewis and coxed by Meg Sheehan, finished in 6:07; the girls second varsity, stroked by Jocelyn Flynn and coxed by Angeliz Reynoso, in 6:18.47; and the girls novice stroked by Alivia Miller and coxed by Dyovelis Reinoso, in 6:44.03.

Matt Barney emerges

 

Sophomore Matt Barney had the best game of his career to help Timberlane's volleyball team (12-1) hold off gritty Windham, 3-1. He had 15 kills and a team-high 12 service points to back up the net play of Sam Hovan (21 kills). Matt Perry had an astounding 62 assists, which is believed to be a school record.

Improving Nick Kasprzak had six blocks to spark Windham to a pivotal 3-1 victory over Pinkerton, Luke Leonard had 13 kills for the Jaguars (6-1) while Sean Galusha had 17 kills for the Astros (8-2).

Devil of comeback

 

Trailing 2-0, Salem's volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 win over Windham to remain perfect after three matches. Roman Fabrizio had 29 assists, 15 service points and four aces to spark the Blue Devils. Nick Hayes had 15 kills and Ben Laycock five blocks in the win. Nick Kasprzak had nine kills and four blocks to pace Windham.
