Reading, the 12th seed in Division 1 North, scored just two minutes into its quarterfinal fild hockey matchup with No. 4 North Andover yesterday and dominated possession for much of the first half.

North Andover edged Gloucester 3-2 in the first round of the Division 1 North tournament. Candace Waldie scored a pair of goals and Courtney Lynch added a pair of assists. The Scarlet Knights will host the winner of today's Salem-Reading clash on Monday at 3:45 p.m.

North Andover was upset by Masconomet Regional, 2-1. The loss drops North Andove to 14-2-3. The lone goal was scored by Janelle Dimartino and assisted by Candace Waldie. Keeper Tess Mcnamara made 6 saves in the loss.

The Newburyport Clippers (12-2-4) tied the North Andover Scarlet Knights (14-1-3) at North Andover yesterday, 1-1. Ashley Karelis scored the lone Clipper goal, and Haley Morris made nine saves for Newburyport. The Clippers had the advantage in shots (22-14), but North Andover had more offensive corners, 8-7. Two Clipper goals were called back.

Courtney Lynch bridged the North Andover offensive and defensive lines effectively, helping the Scarlet Knights dispatch of Pentucket, 5-1. Lynch had three assists and played stellar defense for North Andover (14-1-2, first place in CAL Large).

Kaitlyn Goodwin made 23 saves for Amesbury (4-9-2). Forward Alyssa Lariviere was instrumental in keeping the pressure off of the defense, according to Amesbury coach Gail Kelleher.

Triton got a huge win over undefeated North Andover, 2-0.

Erin Curley and Nicole LeBel both scored, while Colleen Mills and Kelsey Rock had assists for the Vikes.

Sophomore Amanda Valentino picked the perfect time for her first varsity goal. The North Andover field hockey forward scored 15 minutes into the game and the unbeaten Knights held on to beat Hamilton-Wenham, 1-0.

Kerryn McManus anchored the air-tight North Andover defense.
