LOWELL — Madison Borrelli immediately jumped up after sliding into third in the bottom of the seventh, clapping ferociously and screaming at her teammates "Lets go!" The magic number in her head was two, as the hit was her second triple of the game, but more importantly two was the deficit Central Catholic faced in its final at-bat.

Surging forward


The Central Catholic softball team won its ninth straight game, 6-0 over Danvers, to improve to 18-2 and likely earn the No. 1 seed in the Division 1 North tournament. Pitcher Niamh Walker notched her second straight shutout and has only given up one run in the last four games while red-hot Bella Jankowski was 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Almost perfect

Central Catholic needed nine innings to finally plate a run, but thankfully Niamh Walker did more than hold the Burlington bats in check. Walker drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning, and was pitching a perfect game into the bottom half until allowing her only hit of the game.

Bella Jankowski was 3 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs and Haley Andrade and Alexa Plentzas belted home runs as Central crushed Lawrence 22-3. Plentzas had five RBIs on the day for the Raiders (7-1), one more than Andrade.
