Shaun Mears came back from a 2-0 deficit to prevail with a 5-2 decision in the final match of the night, at 160 pounds, to give Whittier Tech a 34-34 tie against improving Andover. Matt Donoghue, in his first match back this year after knee surgery, had a huge 6-5 decision for the Warriors at 106 pounds.

Although short-handed due to illness, Whittier placed fifth at the State Vocational thanks to titles by Dan Madigan at 170 and heavyweight Conrad Ortega, who had four pins. Also for the Wildcats, freshman Sam Wallace and Sal Fonzo were runners-up.

Freshman Sam Wallace continued his fine season with an 11-5 decision at 132 pounds to spark Whittier (16-4) to a 42-34 vidtory over Tewksbury. Nate Buzzell sealed the win with a 7-4 decision at 138.

Trailing after the first period and almost pinned, Haverhill 138-pounder Matt Coyne came back to pin Whittier's Nate Buzzell in the third period to highlight the Hillies' 49-24 victory over the Wildcats. Coyne was 3-0 on the day as Haverhill swept a quad-meet with Whittier, Franklin Tech and Greater Lowell.

Trailing by three points with two matches to go, Whittier rallied for a 39-33 victory over Greater Lawrence. Dan Madigan, who was trailing 12-4, had a huge pin in the third period to put the Wildcats up and then John Michitson sealed the victory with a 4-1 decision at 182. A young Whittier squad made inroads at the Tyngsboro Tournament, placing fifth. The Wildcats had seven placers, led by 182-pound runner-up John Michitson. Pelham, which placed 10th, was led by 145-pound champion Jason Gleason, It was the largest tourney crown ever won by the Python senior.
