Hillies nearly pull upset for the ages

Haverhill came this-close to one of the great upsets in school history but the Hillies fell in an epic first-round Division 2 North hockey game. Haverhill coach Joe Roberts lamented, "Sooooooo close!!" Unbeaten Marblehead, which improved to 22-0-1, got a goal from James McCarthy with 4:33 left in regulation and Drew Cioffi with 3:35 left. After two scoreless OTs, Marblehead won it in a shootout. Haverhill, which got a performance from keeper Mike Gleason which will be talked about for a long, long time, finished up at 9-10-2. He was credited with 46 saves in regulation and 64 overall.

Hillies complete comeback

The Haverhill boys hockey team beat Boston Latin 5-2 on Tuesday to cap off a late season comeback and punch its ticket to the state tournament. The Hillies won their last three games to finish the season 9-9-2 overall. Brian Mackie and Jared Tucker each scored twice.

Haverhill back on top

Behind a stellar 38-save performance from Mike Gleason, Haverhill hockey won its second Newburyport Bank Classic Tournament in the past three years by beating Masconomet 3-0. Gleason and teammates Cameron Belanger and Kyle Gosselin were named to the all-tournament team, and Gleason took home tournament MVP honors. Belanger continued his hot scoring with three goals and two assists in the two tourney games.

Haverhill to the finals

Haverhill got two goals from Cam Belanger and one from Brian Mackie to beat Danvers 3-0 to advance to the finals of the Newburyport Bank Tournament. The Hillies will face Masconomet for the title on Friday.

Wild 77 seconds

Haverhill took a 3-2 lead on Cam Belanger's goal with 77 seconds left. Methuen pulled the goalie and it paid off with the equalizer with 14 seconds left as Pat Cooper found the back of the net on his second goal of the afternoon.

Knights break through

Brett Kochanski and Tyler Buonopane each scored a goal as North Andover locked up its first tournament trip since 2012 with a 2-0 victory over rival Haverhill. Eric Hall made 24 saves for the shutout.

Hillies win Christmas Tournament

The Haverhill boys hockey team beat Wilmington 3-1 to win the 2015 Hillies Hockey tournament. Kyle Gosselin scored the game-winning goal and won 68 percent of his faceoffs to win Tournament MVP, and Broghean McGovern also scored his first varsity goal to ice the victory.

Hillies advance

 

Brian Mackie scored the lone goal in regulation and also scored along with Kyle Gosselin in the shootout to give Haverhill a 2-1 victory over Shawsheen in the Haverhill Christmas Tournament. The Hillies dominated most of the game, outshooting Shawsheen 48-25.  They'll face the Masconomet-Wilmington winner Wednesday at 7 p.m.
