Georgetown Royals Softball '15

Royals break away

 

Trailing 3-2, Georgetown's softball team scored five goals in the bottom of the sixth to roll past Essex Tech 7-3 in the Division 3 North first round. Dana Edwards led off the pivotal sixth with a triple. Maggie Noelk was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Royals (13-8) and Kate Irons was 2 for 2 and scored twice.

Shortstop Kylie Hayward threw out the potential game-tying runner at the plate to end the game as Georgetown nipped Rockport 4-3. Brenna Donoghue slugged a 3-run homer for the Royals.

Hayward leads way

 

Sophomore leadoff batter Kylie Hayward was 3 for 3, scored a run and had two RBIs as Georgetown moved to within a game of the playoffs with a 7-0 shutout of Lynnfeld. Danielle Quercia got the shutout for the Royals (9-7).

Royals prevail

Tied at 1-1 into the bottom of the seventh with Mystic Valley, Georgetown rallied for a 2-1 win. Mary Rose Hahn singled, Dana Edwards singled and Kaylie Sapienza walked to load the bases with no outs. Sophomore Kylie Hayward then launched a blast deep down the left-field line for the walk-off win. Danielle Quercia struck out 12 and walked none to earn the victory.

Kate Irons tracked down a deep fly in center field for a terrific running catch in the seventh to preserve a 3-2 Georgetown victory over Masconomet.

Danielle Quercia lost a five-inning perfect game when Triton got a bloop single with two outs, but she still finished with a one-hitter, striking out eight, and also drove in five runs as Georgetown blasted the Vikings 16-0.

Georgetown grabbed its biggest softball win of the season, 8-5 over a Pentucket team that had won four straight. Jen Nutter was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Royals.
